BAKER CITY, Oregon (CBS2) — Jan. 4 Update:
CBS2 obtained more information about the suspect in an officer-involved shooting in Baker City on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
The Baker County District Attorney's Office says 30-year-old Justin Douglas Burkeen from Boise was the passenger in the vehicle during the traffic stop who brandished a weapon. It is unknown what led to the stop.
The driver has not been charged, and a grand jury will determine if any charges are filed against Burkeen.
Law enforcement contacted family members.
Body camera footage will be released when the investigation is over.
This is the first police shooting in Baker County since 1992.

According to a Facebook post, on Jan. 2, 2024, at approximately 2 a.m., two Baker City Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop in the Clark and Church Streets area, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting.
The passenger brandished a firearm and was subsequently shot by officers. The suspect received medical attention and was transported to a hospital out of the area.
The Baker County Major Crimes Team, consisting of Oregon State Police, Baker County Sheriff's Office, Baker City Police Department and the Baker County District Attorney, has been activated. The scene is secured, and there is no threat to the public.
The Baker County Major Crimes Team is conducting a full investigation of the incident. As per policy, both officers have been placed on critical incident leave.
